Fun in the Gym and more

I finally stepped up and started training the whole MMA package instead of just boxing.
Its fun, its challenging and every new bruise on my body is saying to me "What the hell man!"
Good times:

Apart from this,
- Black Frog posted some cool comic pages on his blog
- I hope i listen to Godspeed You! Black Emperor when the world is going up in flames
- 30 Rock Season 3 is alright so far

Fleet Foxes

I´ve been pretty comfortable in my post-rock music shack.
The atmosphere is nice, not many people walking around talking hip and the bands are not in it for the money (i don't think there is any).
BUT its nice to make a holiday once in a while and visit some different houses,
explore some different music to get exited again.

cue FLEET FOXES

Yes, pretty much everyone knows about this band (at least everyone i wanted to get exited for them told me "welcome to three months ago!") but i just found them today (thx antje!) and i´m exited about it.
The music feels honest, the lyrics are interesting and listening to them on myspace makes me want to go paint something in a forest while drinking black coffee (with some whiskey in it).
GOOD STUFF!

things to listen to

Time flies by at the moment, i don't really play as much as i want to, i don't draw the things i need to draw and i have many podcasts and movies that remain untouched.

Some of the stuff that is sticking out the most:

World War Z - Audio Book

I have written about the book before but after reading that the audio book enhances the story, i gave it another shot.
And its awesome.
All the problems i had with the written material (it has some boring scenes that don't contain plot or any merit) are non existent in audio form.
There are some famous/good voice actors here and it feels way more real and visceral then before.
Definitely worth checking out and its fun to draw while listening to it.

contains Juergen Prochnow, Mark Hamill AND Henry Rollins

- ERRORS, a great mixture of electronic and post-rock sounds (not a real video, but it gives a good idea of their music)

- and this great review made me play PAINKILLER again.

thor, metal gear, russian circles

i finally have a story for a comic and ideas how to tell it.
its going to be rough around ten pages and it will contain fight scenes, pictures of alcohol and evil forest spirits.

the main guy is a nice brute that likes to smash his hammer into things:

and a here is nearly-done-panel with him climbing a mountain in japan

on another note:
- finished GENJI (good fighting control, bad boss design)
- finished MGS2 (not as great as part 3, but the codec communication in the last hours was worth the hassle in the water-level)
- stopped reading "The Time of Our Singing" due too not getting the tone and style of the author

- the new RUSSIAN CIRCLES album is out today and it is awesome!!!

sketchbook stuff with a bit photoshop over it:

_
I never watch live concerts and the idea of buying/watching dvd´s of concerts never appealed to me.
Music is something that is more of background noise than something i can concentrate on, so watching a concert for over 2 hours is a bit much (this is also why audio books wont work for me).
BUT
I stumbled over the following live appearance by simone white and i watched it through (the whole concert is on FABCHANNEL)

its sweet, it feels honest, good times

open canvas doodles

ALSO:

- played through onimusha 2 (liked it overall but hated the power- rangers- like design choices on some characters)
- played through metal gear solid 3 and loved every cut scene infested minute, the boss fight against THE END was worth it alone.
- read some books a pretty bookstore lady suggested to me and was dissapointed in all of them
- i really like the instrumental songs from the new KAKI KING album -> myspace

a couple of things

The end of the semester draws closer (only one week left, yay) and im looking forward to having more time for the fun things in life...

Like playing the PLAYSTATION 2!

It only took the console 9 years to get into my home, but here it is and im glad!
There are alot of games i never really played on my own and i´m willing to try them all!
The rest of the world is torn between the 360 and the ps3 while i very much enjoy god of war 1.
Being late to the party has some advantages sometimes.

Also notable and loved:

- Michael Clayton
- The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

BooksMusicDs

My life is pretty dull at the moment.
I´m reading books, go to work, listen
to music on the train and paint at home
(with some DS playing pauses).

I don't even watch that much movies/tv right now.

In the above order, recommended things:

Resident Evil 3, REALLY BAD.
Portal, best game of the year so far.
TF2, just hit the 10h mark.
Zelda PH, good but not great (needs more than just new controls).

ITS AN UPDATE

Ive been busy getting older, trying out the new wacom (and the new monitor) and ive wasted ALOT of time in zeldaland.

Nothing posted today is really DONE, the Tingle picture especially seems not so hot at the moment.

Grizzly Bear

In the wind, in the yoke, my ride will go.
Central, remote, any further and I'll know.
Pressing matters bear. Through trials and time, I keep my feet right in line for flight so we never recognize.
Pressing matters bear, anable wear and tear on you, tear on you.
Remind me. Tear on you, wear on you.
